|Sophrosyne Stenvaag (sophrosyne_sl) hosts weekly salon discussions at the Diversionarium, and this past week she had a doozy: a discussion of First Life and Second Life culture, followed by a geisha tea ceremony presented by the Geishas of Karyukai Tea House at Malgeungaram, followed by a performance of traditional Japanese music! Some pictures follow.
This Saturday at 1:00 PM SLT, Soph will host another lively and engaging salon:
Beyond Bionics: Transhumanism and Virtual Worlds
We are cyborgs! We may not be able to run faster than a speeding locomotive, but our selves are already deeply linked with technology. What’s the next step for the human species? Will we become Jamie Summers, with onboard hardware? Will we be able to upload ourselves into a server farm? Will we re-engineer our biology to let us become in First Life everything we can be in SL: eternally beautiful and young, any sex, dragons or furries? Or are we turning ourselves into Frankenstein’s monster, and debasing our genetic heritage?
Come join us for a *spirited* discussion of what’s next for humans and technology!
Saturday October 20, 1-3:30 SLT, The Diversionarium
Invited panelists include:
Giulio Perhaps: Giulio Prisco of the World Transhumanist Association
We’ve just moved the Div within the same parcel of land, by the way, so if you go there and find a big hole in the ground, you just need the new landmark! You can get it by searching places or from this blog entry…or IM me! The new spot works better, I think, especially since when we’re all done fiddling with things, the teleport will leave you right near the entrance, between the Div and London’s gadget-filled shop next door.
The Diversionarium in its new location
There’s more to report, and I’ll try to catch up with it soon. 🙂

PS – Thanks very much for the pictures, Soph! 🙂
